Victorians are warned to prepare for a very hot day, with temperatures set to reach 40 degrees.
Extreme heat and strong winds forecast for most of Victoria today could create the “perfect storm” for bushfires, fire authorities warn.
Temperatures will reach the low 40s across most areas with a total fire ban issued for all regions except East Gippsland.
The state’s north west is expected to record the hottest temperatures with the town’s of Mildura, Swan Hill and Ouyen tipped to reach 45 degrees Celsius, the Bureau of Meteorology (BoM) says.
Ambulance Victoria’s Paul Holman said people should avoid physical activity outdoors.
